About 3 weeks ago, it was reported that President Jonathan had asked CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to resign. (If you missed it, read it here). But it seems the two have mended fences by the look of the pic above, taken a few days ago at Davos, Switzerland.
Boko Haram attacks church, kills 22 worshippers in Adamawa state
Gunmen believed to be members of Islamic sect, Boko Haram, on Sunday Jan. 26th launched a fatal attack on a Catholic church in Waga Chakawa village in Madagali Local Council Area in Adamawa State killing at least 22 people. The four-hour attack lasted from 10 a.m. to 2p.m. without resistance from security operatives.
Eye witnesses said two policemen and a security guard attached to the church were also killed during the attack.
The Local Govt chairman, Maina Ularamu, while confirming the incident urged the people in the area to remain calm, saying that security operatives were on top of the situation. Always on top of things after the fact! God help us!

Anti-gay law: Canadian Govt cancels President Jonathan’s state visit

A state visit being planned by Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan to Canada for February has been canceled by the Canadian Government.
The cancellation happened in the same week it was revealed the President secretly signed a controversial law banning gays, lesbians, and sexual minorities in Nigeria.
Sources in Abuja told Saharareporters that the Nigerian Ambassador to Canada, Ojo Madueke, was told to inform President Jonathan that the state visit to Canada scheduled for February 13 and 14th 2014 has now been canceled.

Nun gives birth in Italy, says she didn't know she was pregnant

A Salvadorean nun who said she had no idea she was pregnant gave birth in Italy this week after she felt stomach cramps in her convent and was rushed to hospital, Italian media reported on Friday.
The 31-year-old mother and her baby boy, who weighs 3.5 kilograms (9 pounds), are doing well and other new mothers in Rieti hospital have begun collecting clothes and donations for her, the reports said.
"I did not know I was pregnant.
I only felt a stomach pain," the nun was quoted as saying at the hospital, the Italian news agency ANSA reported. Continue...

Maiduguri suicde bombing: Death toll rises to 43
The bomb blast which took place on tuesday in Maiduguri 43 people has so far be confirmed dead, hospital sources and emergency workers said.
The development prompted Governor Kashim Shettima to shed tears on seeing the magnitude of the mayhem. This was even as Borno Elite for Peace, Stability and Progress, BESP, has called on security agencies to invite former governor of the state, Alhaji Modu-Sheriff for questioning over the recent bomb blast in Maiduguri, saying he was an enemy of the state.
It also asked Sheriff to name the bombers having allegedly claimed that Boko Haram was not responsible for the attack, or remain silent.

Maiduguri hit by car bomb
A car bomb has exploded in Maiduguri, and there are fears of many casualties, the BBC reports.
The incident occurred today around 1pm outside the state television offices.
Blood-spattered people were seen fleeing and vehicles crashed into each other, while soldiers fired automatic weapons.
A suicide bomber is suspected of being behind the blast, reportedly near a market.
The military confirmed to the BBC that an explosion had occurred, but did not give a figure for casualties.
An eyewitness said he had seen what appeared to be dead bodies on the ground. A second car is reported to have been set on fire by the blast

Most Admired People in the World Bill Gates, Obama and the Pope
Bill Gates the world's richest man and Microsoft chairman is the most admired person in the world, followed by US President Barack Obama, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pope Francis and Indian cricket player Sachin Tendulkar, the London Times reports, citing a poll.
Gates scored highly in each of the 12 countries where YouGov conducted polling and was the most popular in China.
Putin’s popularity among Russians helped him secure third place on the list, the newspaper reported.
YouGov surveyed 14,000 people in the U.K., France, Germany, Russia, the U.S., Australia, Pakistan, Indonesia, India, China, Egypt, Nigeria and Brazil in the poll conducted for the Times, according to the newspaper.
